
Brazee Street Studios is an artist community housing over 20 professional artist studios, Brazee Street School of Glass, and gallery One One. Located in Oakley's growing arts district in Cincinnati, Ohio, Brazee Street Studios' building is the renovation of Oakley Tool and Die, a factory in operation from 1930-1980.
Brazee Street School of Glass (SOG) provides quality education in kilnforming techniques and is a recognized Bullseye Glass Resource Center. SOG offers a range of classes for for artists, adults, and children or all skill levels. Click here for a list of classes.
Brazee Street Studios is the brainchild of local artist and Oakley business owner, Sandra Gross. After years working as a glass artist, Sandy wanted to create a glass studio that could offer quality education in kiln-formed glass to the Cincinnati community. By combining this educational mission with her dedication to green construction and ecological conservation, Brazee Street Studios now exists as a unique community and educational space in Cincinnati.

GREEN BRAZEE
Brazee Studios is a fully renovated 21,000 sq foot green building, in the process of obtaining LEED Silver certification. The rooftop at Brazee features a 35.5kW Solyndra photovoltaic solar panel system, the first of its kind in Ohio. Brazee Street Studios is dedicated to preserving the natural environment, and thoughtfully reducing our impact on it. The landscape surrounding Brazee features a monarch butterfly conservation waystation, a bioswale rain garden to receive and absorb stormwater runoff, and a garden full of native plants and prairie grasses specific to our neighborhood.
SOLAR
Brazee Studios features a state of the art Solyndra 33.5kW direct grid photovoltaic solar panel system, the first of its kind in all of Ohio! Solyndra panels are unique in their ability to employ cylindrical modules which capture sunlight across a 360-degree photovoltaic surface capable of converting direct, diffuse and reflected sunlight into electricity. This configuration allows for significantly more solar electricity per year than standard solar models.

Sandra fell in love with glass in graduate school in search of translucency in her work. Her journey took her to Pilchuck Glass School, The Studio at Corning Museum and Haystack School of Crafts. She was awarded one of the Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Awards for the International Sculpture Society. She was a finalist in the Bullseye Emerge Show in 2004 and a finalist and winner in the Student Niche Awards for both Functional and Sculptural Glass. Sandy was also awarded Best of Ohio 2008, 2009, in 2009- winner of the Ohio Designer Craftsmen Labino Award for Glass. She is so excited to share her knowledge and her love of glass.

Leah is a Cincinnati native who has returned after years creating art and exhibitions in Michigan, Chicago and Atlanta. Leah has studied glass at the Studio Corning Museum of Glass and Pilchuck Glass School. Creative Director by day and painter by night, Leah is thrilled to bring new energy, exciting art exhibitions, and glass techniques to the community at Brazee Street Studios. In addition to teaching at Brazee Street School of Glass, Carla manages the retail store and works her magic through merchandising, display and arrangement. Emily Repp studied Art Education at Miami University, where she was able to explore a variety of mediums and found a passion for ceramics. She worked as a studio assistant at CraftSummer for two years, where she met Sandra Gross, who was teaching in glass. Emily joined Brazee Street Studios after completing her K-12 student teaching at both Mason High School and Cline Elementary in Centerville. Emily organizes youth programs at Brazee and loves sharing the excitement of the artmaking experience with students of all ages.

JW, a Kentucky native, has been working with glass since 2001 as artists’ assistant, teacher, and technician. A hot glass caster by trade, he has been a working artist in New Orleans and worked at Pilchuck Glass School and Studio Corning Museum of Glass. He has returned to Cincinnati to build and manage the new Hot Glass Studio at Brazee Street Studios.

Dorie Guthrie graduated from Illinois State University in 2008. She has attended classes at Penland School of Craft, Corning Museum of Glass and Pittsburgh Glass Center, awarded to her by scholarships. Dorie will continue to develop her body of work while she is sharing her glass knowledge with eager Cincinnati students.
Sam McHughStudio Assistant
Sam McHugh is a Senior at Seven Hills High School. Sam met Sandy in the summer of 2009 through Artworks, creating a fused glass installation for the Ronald McDonald House in Cincinnati. Sam is an expert in the studio and helps keep us all on the right track in both art and music.
