Originally a goldsmith, Astrid Riedel has been working with glass for more than a decade. She is known for her ability to push the boundaries of glass as a medium and create beads unlike any others. She is an avid experimenter who likes to try new techniques in her work. She pulls influences from both the glassblowing world and the contemporary art world to create never before seen designs. The body of Riedel's work is in wearable glass necklaces which are almost entirely made of glass components. Riedel has been teaching around the world for more than five years, and currently resides in Pretoria, South Africa.
