Learn from the best- Astrid Riedel is a world expert on creating hollow off mandrel beads. Students in this course will learn to incorporate theories and techniques from glassblowing into their torch worked creations. Learn to create round, lentil and tapered tube shaped hollow beads off mandrel. Then students will be led through the steps to add decorative elements to hollow beads such as shards, enamels, stringer and twists.
Some torch experience is required.

Originally a goldsmith, Astrid Riedel has been working with glass for more than a decade. She is known for her ability to push the boundaries of glass as a medium and create beads unlike any others. She is an avid experimenter who likes to try new techniques in her work. She pulls influences from both the glassblowing world and the contemporary art world to create never before seen designs. The body of Riedel's work is in wearable glass necklaces which are almost entirely made of glass components. Riedel has been teaching around the world for more than five years, and currently resides in Pretoria, South Africa.
